All roads lead to Rome.
The Appian Way is an original ancient Roman road. It has been on my “list” to visit for a year. I finally made it.
I was surprised at how peaceful it was. Not too far removed from the hustle and bustle of busy Roma, it was an unexpected delight.
With ruins to wander, and space for your mind to get lost, somehow you can breathe deeper here.
There is a church situated along the way, Chiesa del Domine Quo Vadis. Rumor has it that Jesus’ footprints are in a marble slab on the floor. According to legend, Jesus appeared to Peter who had escaped from prison. Peter, trying to flee persecution, asked Jesus, “Lord, where are you going?” Jesus replied, “I am going to Rome to be crucified again.”
In that same church, there was a cute little pot of alyssum (my name, Alyssa, comes from these flowers) at the feet of a painting of Jesus. It reminded me to stay at His feet.
I hope that as you view these photos, you can breathe a bit deeper. Go ahead, try it.
